Like many here, I loved participating and reading along with everyone’s FIG posts. It was great to focus on the good that’s present, and so I decide to reflect on some recent small good things.
1. St. Patrick’s Day. We have zero Irish heritage, and my main memories of the holiday as a kid revolve around my grandfather’s birthday (which was on St. Patrick’s day) since he would sometimes embrace the theme for his birthday parties. However, this year my older daughter was obsessed with the idea of catching a leprechaun and made a few traps. Seeing her tinker and problem solve on these traps was awesome, and her excitement was contagious. So this year, we embraced the holiday a bit more with green milk and overnight oats, lots of coins and shamrocks left near the trap, and a corned beef and cabbage dinner with beer bread. It was fun to have a randomly celebratory Tuesday!
2. I’ve posted before about trying to find good books for my first grader to read. We picked up a Dog Man book at the library last night, and she was so hooked. It was such a delight to see her pick up the book this morning to read some more and laugh as she read. She brought the book in the car and read it the whole way to school.
3. We had some nice family time over the weekend--I want to a bridal shower for my cousin, and got to catch up with lots of family members I hadn’t seen for a while. It was so nice to celebrate my cousin and catch up with her since it had been way too long since we’ve been in the same place. The kids got to see their cousin (7 months old now!) and go swimming in the pool.
4. We went on a fun date to the very quirky and fun restaurant Mothership. It kind of reminded me of if Meow Wolf was a vegan restaurant, which was nostalgic for us since we visited on our babymoon in Santa Fe before my oldest was born. We also used a new babysitter, and the kids liked her! So that was a win!

What’s something good that’s happened to you in the last week or so? What’s something good that’s happened to you in the last week or so?
Yay for finding a babysitter that the kids liked! Our boys love the babysitter on our block. They keep asking when she's coming back! My husband and I are both off work next Friday and the boys have childcare at the afterschool program so we are planning to do a day date.
ReplyDeleteSomething good from this past week was seeing my parents last Thursday/Friday. We don't see them much during the winter months (they live on a lake so this isn't a great season for visiting like the summer is...) so it was good to get a brief visit in!
That's so nice you got to see them! A day date sounds great :) Hope it's a fun one!
DeleteIt's beautiful and warm here, and I have been in the garden! Goodness, but there are a lot of weeds. I like weeding, actually. I find it kind of meditative and soothing, and you see instant results!
ReplyDeleteI wish I liked weeding, but alas, no one in our house really likes that chore.
DeleteSo great to find a babysitter the kids like. And the St. Pats celebration is so funny.
ReplyDeleteThis week we had snow and the. Today felt like mid 60s and I took the tots to the park. I had Reg home last week on spring break and Rae this week- so nice to have extra hands in my daycare.
I'm so glad you had extra help and time with your kids!
DeleteHow fun that you decided to randomly celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a themed day and dinner :) And I love that you got to go on a date night!
ReplyDeleteIt was a surprising source of fun!
DeleteWe also tried to trap leprechaun but… the trickster escaped, bribing us with chocolates. And leaving some feet imprints behind.
ReplyDeleteSneaky leprechauns!
DeleteThat restaurant does sound really fun!!! I looked at the website. And it's vegan? I would love it.
ReplyDeleteCelebrating holidays is fun!!! Now that my kids are older we don't do anything for St. Patrick's Day (sadly) but we used to do green food and such. Unfortunately never did a leprechaun trap- my kids would have loved that.
If you are ever in San Diego, you definitely should. Definitely also go to Kindred--it's my favorite vegan restaurant I've ever been to.
DeleteA great date night AND a babysitter the kids liked? That's a win all around!
ReplyDeleteSomething good in my world is buying new furniture! I have a new outdoor couch coming today and a new dining room table coming tomorrow. YAYYYY!
Your new apartment is really coming together!
