This month, I’m joining Elisabeth and other bloggers in the FIG collective. I’m trying to look for and notice the good things in life. The beginning of the month snuck up on me! But I’ve been adding small (and not so small good things) to a google doc for the past week as I notice the good that’s around me.
A list of FIGs this week:
*Hanging out with friends while kids play on the front sidewalk. I’m always grateful to live near friends and have those easy unplanned moments of community.
*Playing hide and seek with the girls makes me feel like a kid again. I also think it’s hilarious that my youngest always finishes counting and then says, “mom, where are you?”
*Right now whenever M tries to say “tag, you’re it!” it sounds like “tag, carrot!” Toddler phrases are the best.
*Seeing a Western Bluebird and Red Shouldered Hawk at the park.
*Reading Everyone is Lying. It’s kind of a candy read, and I am here for it. If the idea of a trad wife muder mystery sounds intriguing to you, I recommend it.
*My toddler fell and bumped her head, and she’s got a goose egg, but I am so, so grateful she is ok. Definitely appreciating all the snuggles with her.
*I tried a new meditation app, and it’s free and lovely. (Insight timer). I haven’t been making time for meditation regularly, but I’m glad to have this resource and hopefully incorporate this practice more.
*Reading Harry Potter to A at bedtime. Reading about the Hogwarts Express and the sorting hat with her is such a huge infusion of joy and nostalgia to my day.
*Finding joy in beautiful clouds in the sky and unusually visible stars at night. Looking up at the sky is something that always feels grounding to me.
*Deciding to get takeout when we all felt sick, and enjoying comforting, warming pho that none of us had to make. Grateful to live near so many tasty restaurants.
*Two nights away to visit old friends (an event that contained so many figs!). Grateful for walks with friends, the best pasta, lots of time for catching up, meeting a new baby, and the novelty of checking out the Academy museum and watching a movie, Bugonia.
What was a moment you want to hold onto from this week? Do you practice gratitude in a specific way? I definitely noticed more positive moments as the week went on, so I plan to continue with this!

Love this! I have already opened next week's post and started to drop them in-- such an important practice right now when the world feels dark.
ReplyDeleteSame! I feel like it took me a few days to get into the routine, but I really like it!
DeleteOne thing I love about this gratitude practice is that I benefit not only from all the good in my life, but from all the good in other bloggers' lives, too. What an uplifting and comforting group project!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are playing hide and seek with the kids! That is darling.
This is such a good point--it really is a great group project because I love seeing what made other people happy!
DeleteTag, carrot. Oh my goodness, that is just the SWEETEST. I don't typically miss the toddler stage, but their little words slay me and I do miss snuggles up and just listening to them talk. It's hilarious and so heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating <3
Thanks so much for hosting! It's such a nice reframe to actively look for the good.
DeleteOh, I haven't played hide and seek in SO LONG! That's so cute. I used to love that when I was a kid. I read the first 3 Harry Potters in 2025 - for the first time ever!. I'm so late to the party, but it was thrilling to finally know what other people are talking about (and watch the movies). I need to pick back up now with #4 soon, but I have a couple of other books on my list first.
ReplyDeleteThat's so fun that you're reading Harry Potter now! I loved reading them as a kid, so it's definitely a more nostalgic read for me. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on #4 because it's kind of a tone shift from the first 3 books.
DeleteI love toddler expressions. Will still says some words wrong like ‘sink’ instead of ‘think’. I kind of don’t want him to learn how to say the word right.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to note a positive thing for each day in my planner but fell behind. I need to sit down and write out some positive things. My positive thing for today is that I get to see the coworker that was hurt in the fire in sept. I am really hoping I walk away feel good about how she’s doing but whatever state she is in, it will be good to connect.
I hope that your coworker is healing well, and I'm glad you get to connect. I agree that I always find it bittersweet when kids learn to say things correctly.
DeleteThese are great. I’m laughing at the Where are you mom? Classic.
ReplyDeleteI made gf sugar free brownies with Curly during the superbowl and it was so fun. I think because I tend to bake with the younger girls as an opportunity to connect, this rare moment with Curly was extra special (and funny because she was like These are gonna be gross and videoed our reaction).
That sounds like a great reaction video--how did the brownies turn out?
DeleteI love all of these! Sigh- Harry Potter!!! I miss those days of reading to my son (my daughter sadly never got into HP). And yes- Mom where are you... so, so funny. I love that toddler phase (well- most of it, ha ha).
ReplyDeleteI don't have a regular gratitude practice, but Elisabeth's FIGs are making me think about it more. It really does make a huge difference to focus on all the good things.
Same! I do often write things I'm grateful for or want to remember in my 5 year journal, but that's not the main focus. The toddler phase is high highs and low lows in my experience.
DeleteJuicy, fresh figs!!
ReplyDeleteI remember Rainn was like, two , maybe, or not even. He would say “frog” but it would come out as “f**k” lol the best!
I’m also on insight timer. I especially love their bedtime stories. Try Michelle’s sanctuary- her voice is so soothing I fall asleep in no time. And her stories are very cozy!
Love all the FIGs this week... and I am happy that you found some good ones, too. I also love looking up at the sky and I am glad you were able to connect with old friends. So precious.
ReplyDeleteSo many great FIGs here - I love when little kids say things incorrectly. It's the cutest!
ReplyDeleteA moment I want to hold onto from this past week is a lovely Galentine's date with my best friend and my mom. We saw a show (& Juliet) and it was sensational!
