Kind of impulsively, I've decided to attempt NaBloPoMo after about 3 years of not blogging. Lately I've been drawn to the idea of writing more, and I definitely benefit from the outer accountability of a challenge. I think posting every day for a month, even briefly, might help me build a more regular habit of blogging and just writing more generally. So to kick things off, I thought I'd introduce myself, why I stopped writing, and why I'd like to change that.
I'm Sam. I live with my family of 4 in San Diego. We moved here 3 years ago from Colorado, and I absolutely love it here. I grew up on the Central Coast, so moving here has felt like moving to the big city version of where I grew up. I live with my two daughters, A (6) and M(2) and my husband (J). I taught for 9 years, but am currently staying home while my youngest is small. I both really miss teaching/working, and also love that right now there is more margin in our lives and I get a lot of time to spend with my daughters.
I blogged for a little while when we lived in Colorado, but struggled to keep writing as we prepared to move to California, and completely stopped as we settled into our new home in California. I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, adjusting to being a stay-at-home mom, settling in to our new home and neighborhood, and honestly felt too in flux to have the space to write. I also think I sometimes felt like writing was self-indulgent, which is funny because I absolutely love reading other people's blogs. It feels so fun to have a window into other people's worlds and see their perspectives. I love blogs for the tangible ideas and recommendations I get (music! books! travel! routines!) to more abstract musings on technology, contentment, family, and what makes a good life.
So this month I want to experiment with imperfectly contributing to the conversation of so many of the blogs I love and experiment with creating more. This feels like the perfect time of year to reflect on favorites, what's working, what's not, and what life is like in this particular season. Looking forward to reading everyone else's posts and trying out a new challenge.
Welcome to our community! I can't wait to read your posts this month and get to know you.
ReplyDeleteHappy to find a new blog amidst the regular NabloPoMo blogging crew and getting to know you. Thanks for the introduction.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam! Welcome to NaBloPoMo. I'm excited to meet you, and I'm looking forward to your posts. I stayed home with my kids and it was amazing. I do wish I had a career to fall back on, but I hated the business world and hadn't done much with my degree. I've been running an in home daycare for teachers' kids since 2015. I love having summers off to do stuff with my crew.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to NaBloPoMo and back to blogging! I think it's awesome that you jumped right back in with a month of daily blogging. It going to be an adventure! I hope you find some of what you're looking for in your own space, and on other blogs that are participating.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam! Welcome to NaBloPoMo and to our community. I am so glad you found us and I am hoping that you'll make some great friends here (that will also keep you connected to your blog!). I am looking forward to getting to know you!
ReplyDeleteYes! It's really fun to read and explore new blogs and connect with new people : )
DeleteThis is so nice to read! I've loved reading your blog a lot in the last year--it's fun to read about a family in a slightly different stage of life than ours! I like hearing what all your older kids are up to since we only have an elementary schooler and toddler.
ReplyDeleteUm, wait, what?! I somehow missed this! I happened to click through on a whim and saw actual new posts! How exciting!
